Meet the maker: BYD which is backed by Warren Buffett as a shareholder launched the most inexpensive EV out there as of 2023, known as the “Seagull”.
Price to value: The BYD Seagull comes with two range versions (305 to 405 kilometers) with 190 to 252 miles on a single charge. What is most striking about the Seagull is that the vehicle will be priced at 78,000 yuan or around $11,300.
Seagull stats: The Seagull is based on the BYD e-Platform 3.0 and houses a 55 or 75 kW (75 or 102 hp) electric motor.
BYD said it will be powered by a lithium iron phosphate BYD Blade battery with capacities of 30 and 38 kWh. This type of battery, is more economical and allows very fast recharging (has been tested for several months by the manufacturer). It could for example ramp up from 30% to 80% charge within 30 minutes, the company asserted.
Rivals’ price gauge: The base price of the Nissan Leaf is $28,040 while Chevy Bolt is $26,500, and lastly Tesla’s least expensive Model 3 sedan costs $39,990 at base price as of April 18, 2023.
Microsoft tackling the US healthcare sector
Yours truly: Microsoft will be expanding its partnership with Epic Systems to introduce artificial intelligence to healthcare.
The usefulness: The integration of AI will allow healthcare providers to focus more of their attention on their many pertinent clinical duties, increasing productivity, in accordance to Chero Goswami, the chief information officer at UW health.
You guessed it: This comes in the midst of a staffing shortage that has plagued the healthcare sector since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2019. McKinsey estimates that the U.S. will have a shortage of 200,000-450,000 nurses by 2025.
IKEA expanding itself in US
US region: By 2022, the US market accounted for 14% of the 44.6 billion euros ($48.97 billion USD) that IKEA brought in at the end of the year.
Others: In 2022, Germany brought in 14.4% of the sales, France 8.3% and the United Kingdom 6.6%.
Their budget: On April 20, 2023, IKEA parent company Ingka Group announced that it would spend two billion euros or $2.2 billion USD to expand its US presence.
