How Norway went green on EV Sales

In the beginnings: The Norwegian government started supporting the purchase of electric vehicles back in the 1990s with free parking, no tolls, the use of bus lanes and no taxes on zero-emission vehicles.

Not impossible: According to the state secretary of the Norwegian Ministry of Climate and Environment, Ragnhild Syrstad said “Our goal is that all new cars by 2025 will be zero-emission vehicles.”

The climb: About 82% of new car sales were electric vehicles in Norway during 2023.

Untying the shoelace of Nike

Puzzled piece: In December 2023, Nike unveiled a restructuring plan to cut costs by about $2 billion in the coming years.

Starting the trim: The company is cutting more than 1,500 roles, as part of a broader restructuring as of February 2024.

Internal report: Different divisions saw downsizing, including recruitment, sourcing, brand, engineering, human resources and innovation.

Trying to divert environmental disaster

Branded letter: Virgin Group founder Richard Branson signed an open letter to take action against the rising dangers of the climate crisis, pandemics, nuclear weapons and ungoverned AI.

Renewing the old: The letter was released by The Elders, an organization that was started by former South African President Nelson Mandela and Richard Branson.

Seeking change: Signatories is calling for the transition away from fossil fuels, signing a pandemic treaty, restarting nuclear arms talks and building global governance for AI.
