Nvidia going to new heights
Growth: Nvidia achieved dominance in the videogame market with its graphics cards, and it’s extending its strengths to artificial intelligence, as the use of AI is projected to increase exponentially across many industries.
Thriller: Nvidia’s market cap broke through the $1 trillion threshold (joining the likes of other big tech companies such as Apple, Alphabet, Amazon, and Microsoft).
Aftershock: “The computer industry is going through two simultaneous transitions – accelerated computing and generative AI” said Jensen Huang, founder and CEO of Nvidia.
Tesla’s internal information leak in Europe
The exposure: Reportedly Tesla has failed to protect information from customers, employees and business partners (received thousands of customer complaints regarding the carmaker’s driver assistance system).
Potential fine: If European governmental violation(s) are proved true, Tesla could be fined up to 4% of its annual sales, which could be €3.26 billion ($3.5 billion).
Checking in: Watchdog(s) from the likes of Germany and Netherlands noted it was aware of possible Tesla breaches.
Twitter shrinks back to EU laws
Initially: Twitter previously withdrew itself from the European Union’s Code of Practice on online disinformation as noted publicly in late May, 2023.
Official statement: According to Thierry Breton (European Commissioner for Internal Market) “Twitter leaves EU voluntary Code of Practice against disinformation. But obligations remain. You can run but you can’t hide. Beyond voluntary commitments, fighting disinformation will be legal obligation… Our teams will be ready for enforcement.”
If so: Breaches of the DSA can attract penalties of up to 6% of global annual turnover.
Hard line: The Commission has also warned that serious, repeated non-compliance could lead it to block access to a service (dangling the prospect of Twitter losing access to a region with some 440 million consumers).
The revert: Twitter has agreed to comply with new EU laws on fake news.
Probing visit: Thierry had a two-day visit to California (June,2023), and stated “I told Elon Musk and Linda Yaccarino that Twitter should be very diligent in preparing to tackle illegal content in the European Union.”
